April Newsletter
Wow, what a glorious start to the month! Let’s hope it continues, maybe with some overnight rain!
If you’re lucky enough to have asparagus you can begin to harvest this month, along with spring cabbages and cauliflowers. You might still have leeks and kale.
You can start sowing outdoors if the soil is warm enough. Otherwise indoors under cover.
Plant second earlies and main crop potatoes and the last of your onion sets this month. First earlies can be earthed up as you see growth emerging.
Take time to prepare beds by weeding thoroughly and raking over the soil.
Prune cherries and plums now they’re growing, once leaf buds have opened.
Please help yourself to wood chips and manure and pay £1 a barrowload for the manure.
The cut flowers by the shed have started to be planted so please give them a gentle water if you can make time – thanks.
Also remember the next working party is Saturday 12th April from 9am to 11am – please join in if you can!
Have a good month of sowing and growing.
