SPAA celebrates 10th birthday with a BBQ party

Plot holders gathered for a BBQ Party at the Calico Field site, on the evening of Saturday 24th July 2021, to celebrate TEN years of successfully growing and harvesting fruit and veg across the Allotments.
Founded in 2011 by an intrepid group of enthusiastic local people, the Swallowfield Parish Allotment Association started life as a field for horses and an array of wildlife. After an enormous amount of hard work and help from the local community, 32 plots were set up and have been continually bearing fruit and veg since that date. With a car park at the entrance to the field, a polytunnel at the far end of the allotments and a water supply feeding water troughs the length of the allotments, the site is now a buzzing community.
To celebrate the 10th birthday of the site, some of the founding members returned to toast the site – some of these founders are still plot holders. Current members joined them for a BBQ, drinks and fabulous ‘Allotment’ cake. Toasts were made to celebrate ten years and wish many happy growing years to come.
One of the founding members, Terry Edmund, sadly passed away during 2020 and a moment was taken to dedicate an apple tree to his memory, with his wife Tina placing a plaque in the ground next to the tree.
